I want to be healthy! And start fresh and clean. So what is a great detox diet to clean out my system? I heard that the way to clean out your body, and lose some fat, but not lose any muscle, is to eat raw foods only, as in only fruit and veggies, and also a scoop of protein powder in water a day. That is to keep your muscle intact. Has anybody tried this? Thanks!

You do not need to clean your insides. You are not a walking bag of toxins, and your colon isn’t full of stuff hanging out in pockets or hidey-holes. Your colon is a self cleaning set up, and you already own some of the most efficient toxin filters known. You’d call those your liver and kidneys, by the way, and they are more efficient than anything made by people. Your body was designed to obtain nutrition from real food, not protein powder and not a pill. The best way to lose weight is the old fashioned way, by eating fewer calories than you burn, and by exercising. You can eat raw veggies and fruit, of course- but truthfully, a good many of them are simply nearly indigestable in that state and you do not absorb all the nutrition they have available. You do not have to cook them to death, by any means, but at least enough to soften them so you can chew them well. You can steam them in a microwave easily enough, just to take the crunch off. Protein powder is some of the nastiest stuff I ever encountered, no matter what you do to it. Meat and other natural sources of protein also bring along other nutrients for the ride, aside from just the protein. You also need B vitamins that are not present in fruits, veggies or protein powder- those need to come from whole grain foods. And oatmeal isn’t something most folks care to eat raw, and wheat berries are hard on the molars. If you want to be healthy, eat a proper balanced diet. If you feel the need to clean something, stick to the windows and floors. Eat right, and your body will take care of itself. Eat less, you will lose weight. Exercise and you don’t have to worry about losing muscle mass. Leave the strange combos and such alone. The only thing those things usually clean out is your wallet. Spend your money on real food, and eat it. Your colon, liver and kidneys will take care of all the rest.
